CHAPTER THIRTEEN
Davie threw some water over Poohâs face, as she lie on the dirty motel floor, because sheâd fainted for the second time that day. Every time she realized that she lost Cordon, and Miranda she would work herself up to a frenzy.
When Pooh regained consciousness, she spit some of the water out of her mouth and sat up straight on the floor. âWhatâs going on?â
âYou keep passing out,â Davie said rubbing her forehead. âYou gotta calm down though. You not gonna find them kids like this.â He helped her to the bed. âWe gonna find them though. I promise.â
âBut how, Davie?â she looked up at him for answers. âYou been telling me this for the past day and we still havenât found them yet.â
âMaybe we should call the cops,â Davie said never thinking heâd hear the day heâd say those words.
âNo! Because then theyâll blame me,â Pooh responded breathing heavily. âDo you understand what can happen to me, if Kimi and Flex know I lost them?â she asked, with wide eyes. âFlex is going to kill me! And Kimi might hold the gun for him.â
Davie sat next to her. âLetâs think hard,â he said rubbing her leg. âWhere do you think they could possibly go?â
âThey could go anywhere,â She said, shaking her head at his dumb ass question. âI donât know. Thatâs why Iâm asking you.â
âOkay, when they left, where did they say they were going?â
âTo the soda machine,â she pointed at the door. âIn the hallway outside of the room.â
âOkay, how come we didnât check there already?â he asked seriously looking into her eyes.
âYou playing right?â she inquired with lowered eyebrows.
âNo, we should always look in the last place they went. So if they went to the soda machines, they could possibly still be there.â
âDavie, we past the soda machines on the way to the room. There is nowhere for them to hide by the machine.â
âWell Iâm checking again.â
****
Pooh watched as Davie inspected the soda machine. He looked to the left of it and then the right. He even got on his hands and knees and looked under it. When his brain engine really started to roar, he opened the soda slot and looked inside of there. With everything heâd done, Miranda and Cordon still were not found.
âWell,â she asked sarcastically, âare they inside the machine or what? Maybe they miraculously turn themselves into a Coke or Sprite.â
âYou talking a lot of shit,â he said standing up straight brushing his hands together. âYou might not like my methods, but at least Iâm trying to find the kids. All you want to do is pass out and cry.â
Davie was right. People cracked on him all the time. They said he was stupid. They said he was a boat head. They even said he couldnât find his own eyes if he was looking at them in the mirror. But what people failed to say about him was that he had heart, and that it belonged to Pooh.
Pooh loved him just as strong.
